There are some people who design clothing and there are others who design art. Through production, styling, and intermedia some designers use every aspect of their runway and blow you away. Pedram Karimi is one of these designers.

Entering Pedram’s studio I am immediately immersed into a feeling that I have entered a machine that never seems to turn off constantly moving like an old clock tower where dawn and dusk can happen at any time. Instantly pulled to the rack of fabrics most in neutral greys, blacks, charcoal, silver, pewter, and white but each a very different textile than the other. One of the most intriguing things about his pieces are the unconventional textures and choice of fabrics that always surprise you up close. He explained how influenced he was by the his past, the colors surrounding him growing up in Iran and eventually Austria. I watched as one of the pieces was just being finished up right to its last stitch and thrown into the a line up of pieces  that curated my liquid dreams, which is appropriate given the message of fluidity.

Androgyny was back on the table as always for Karimi with billowing silhouettes, leggings under shorts, all in caps, and an army of stoic maodels charging in their buffalos. The opening video made by Triptyque followed a story of a girl who in water turned into the man, a fluid journey in between a new genderless world. A post modern future referenced straight out of a 90s warehouse party and into the space craft after party. Platforms, reflective fabric, hues of matte grey, and white mixed in with a burnt cantaloupe, pewter sea-foam, and even a crushed velvet deep algae color reminiscent of last seasons finale coat. Blue lighting made believers out of everyone and the trip hop added a new sense of urban cool to the avante garde yet simplistically wearable collection. Just enough art, just enough consumerism.

A full fledge collection that I would wear every piece. Such an evolution from the first collection previewed at DYDH’ offical first Mews event, and such a head into the future for all of us abducted fashion souls.
