[NSFW] ★APOCALIPSTIK★ at Divers/Cite

It is the end of the world at least according to religious beliefs. It is hard not to see shifts in the way the globe is handling itself, with Milennials and Generation Y gearing up for a takeover,a major change in policies, and unimaginable visibility of some of the worlds smallest minorities and marginalized groups. Now if you live in this city its tough not to notice Montreal as one of the gayest cities in North America. With three pride/ pride adjacent/responses, the streets are owned by gay and queer culture and no longer caged into Ste. Catherine Est.

Divers/Cite, a first response to the corporatization and mainstream agenda Pride Fierte hosts and has taken the leap outside of the gay village and onto the stoney alleyways, and harboured lots of the old port, an area flooded with tourism during this summers time. Amongst this progression, within its vast schedule, a very diverse bunch of queer riot rats came together to blow up the Port with APOCALIPSTIK!

Created and hosted by Val Desjardins ( the Royal Phoenix) and Sally & Tyler( Gay Bash), very big power players in bringing nu homo life to other parts of the city and creating some of the hottest parties in this city’s recent history. On the big stage a collective of artists came together to bring new promise to the almost two decade old festival and carry with it some of its roots. With eclectic grotesque burlesque geniosity from Glam Gam Productions, showcasing two numbers (brilliantly choreographed by Gabrielle Coulter )clearly not enough for the audience still mesmerized by the beautiful unplucked flower exposed int he groups “Painting the Pussy Red” number and turned on by the troupes rendition of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs!

Other acts including girl scene queen DJ Tizi and mayhem maker B’Ugo, a frequenter at many of Mtl’s biggest festivals, Lez Spread the Word, and of course I was honoured to be apart of such a talented studded group of artists with Montreal Street Fashion on the scene documenting all of the debauchery led by Still Not Famous and other party crashing vibers. Apocalipstik also held home for artists such as Sarah Newfeld( Arcade Fire), Frantastike & Montag(Mec Plus Ultra, Audio Porn Club), Foxtrott, Dirty Mags, Fanny Bloom, and NYC transplant Kid Savant.
